The Plague

Last week, my one year old son, Steven, caught what I refer to as "The Plague" - it's an extremely contagious, pretty disgusting rash that is actually called Hand Foot and Mouth Disease, or Cocksackie. Being that this illness was EXTREMELY contagious, I had to keep him away from the world and do my best to keep him away from his two year old sister. YEA RIGHT. So in sum, that means that I had to basically be in isolation for a week. And, as if Hand Foot and Mouth Disease wasn't enough of a downer, it also decided to rain ALL week. Being inside with a one and a two year old with very little outside/adult interaction leaves you with lots and lots of time to think. I texted my good friend Cristin and said "Should I start a blog?" She said "Yes". So, here I am. Thanks to The Plague, I have started this blog. I guess everything happens for a reason?!?! (Not sure if this actually applies here, but it's my motto for everything so I'll go with it).

PS I need to give a shout out to my brother in law who took one for the team and contracted The Plague while staying with us, interviewing for jobs. One day, that will be funny.

I started a blog when Olivia, my two year old, was first born. That lasted a whole TWO posts. I'm hoping that this one won't be so short lived.

When I tell my friends or family I'm starting this blog, the first thing they say to me is "what will it be about?" My response: "I don't really know." I am finding that as a stay at home mom, I crave a creative outlet; a place I can keep track of the things that make me feel happy, things that make my life easier, things that keep me going, that I have to look forward to. Usually that's something as simple as a new amazing mascara, pair of shoes that don't hurt my bunions, working on small home projects, organizing my closet, and of course, my kids.

I'm a 30 year old mom with a one and a two year old. They are 13 months apart. Enough said. Some days I want to get my tubes tied and some days I want to pop out a few more. So many ups and so many downs. I always think: "Can two really be my number?" I have three siblings - two sisters and a brother. How can I not give my kids more than one sibling? But I have a healthy, beautiful girl and a healthy, beautiful boy. Shouldn't I quit while I'm ahead? After all, I only have two hands and two eyes which is just enough to keep track of two kids. But how can this be the last time I'm going to have the pregnant belly (even though I really kind of hated being pregnant) and the last time I'm going to see those first steps, first words?! This is just a glimpse into my daily thoughts (and a glimpse into my nightly conversations with Adam, my husband. I think he's stopped listening at this point. Bahaha). I'm like every other mom - trying to figure it all out. Trying to navigate being a mom and my own, separate identity.

I am not starting this blog to try to gain a front row seat at fashion week. I do love fashion, but I'm by no means a fashion authority. As a SAHM (stay at home mom), I find that it's really important to feel good. Your world revolves so much around your kids that you can forget about you. The days when I get dressed in an outfit I like, put a little makeup on, it's amazing the difference I feel. I think that applies to everyone, with or without kids, working or not. I'm all about every day, comfortable, yet put together looks. Running after two little ones, there's no way I can be wearing a 5 inch stiletto every day (nor could my bunions handle that), but I'm all about putting functional outfits together that I feel good in.

Lastly, the name of my blog - This Purple Life of Mine - you may wonder what the heck that means. Well, I love purple. It makes me happy. Since this blog is all things that make me happy, I thought a Purple-y name was only appropriate. I don't discriminate - love all shades of purple from lavender to fuscia. My wedding colors were purple, my house is purple, my front door is even purple! As some of you know, we had the good fortune of being on the show, Property Brothers. While they did redo most of our house, there were some parts of the house that they did not touch - which means I got to do some projects of my own. I would love to share some of those with you all! Would also love to share parts of our Property Brothers experience!

So, in conclusion, this blog will be all things kids, clothes, beauty, accessories, organization, home, maybe some food, mom life - a fun outlet for me to share some of the things that make me happy. I hope you will share in some of that happiness with me. Welcome to This Purple Life Of Mine :)

Welcome!

Marrying the love of my life.
